Design ADRT for Nitrogen Blanketing Tank

Sunday, November 26, 2017   By: karsadi [652] 4 Stars
Dear sir,
In relation to the operation of refineries using Nitrogen blanketing with relatively low operating pressure, to achieve our goal we will plan an aluminum geodesic dome roof on a tank that must be vapor tight and water tight,

With regards to our requirements and because of we have not experience, we ask the opinion from the HMT engineer and with the following answers

No one can supply a dome that is able to hold internal pressure and theres no way any dome can be leak-free.

Is the statement true and acceptable? That ADRT is unable to tank the Nitrogen Blanketing facility.

We are not satisfied with the HMT engineers answer, although he claims to be very understanding and follow the development of API 650.

Perhaps among others friends or others HMT engineer, there is an input as an idea for the implementation of our intention to achieve with the expected.

Thanks in advance.
Best Regards

The statement from HMT no one can supply a dome that is able to hold internal pressure and that there is no way any dome can be leak-free is not true.

The aluminum dome roof can be designed to withstand a nominal internal pressure and can be vapor tight. Both requirements must be given to the aluminum dome roof supplier at the time of requesting their offer as this gives them the opportunity to either decline to bid because their particular aluminum dome roof design can not meet the requirements, as in the case of an HMT aluminum dome roof, or include the additional features and cost in their offer.

In any case many aluminum dome roofs are in service where the tank is subject to a nominal internal pressure such as a tank with nitrogen blanketing and are vapor tight such as a tank storing effluent or sewerage.

Dear Mr. Dunedin

Thanks with a quick answer and I agree with you.

Surprisingly with HMT engineer, which I know HMT level same with Conservatek, Temcor, Ultraflote, Altech, ETC., without a long thought make a written statement?

Suppose there are engineers who read this post and disagree with me, I wait for his comments.

Once again Thank you to Mr. Dunedin already made me no longer hesitant and thankful for this precious attention and enlightenment.

Best regards

Of course Conservatek and Temcor are no longer trading and Allantech do not manufacture an aluminum dome roof.

Honeycomb Panel IFR
By: davidr@fast.net [39]

Honeycomb panels used on internal floating roofs are a sandwich construction consisting of an upper and lower skin with core in between. The materials are most often aluminum. In this scenario, the core is usually 0.003 thick aluminum foil expanded to a six sided shape similar to what bees make in their hives, hence the name honeycomb. The top and bottom skins are 0.16 minimum, sometimes as thick as 0.040. The core may be of solid aluminum foil or it may have perforations. The perforations ....   Read All
