What is the maximum size of tank that can be constructed with self supported roof?

why different type of wind girder is not considered/designed for tanks in the middle east region where spiral winds are quite common?

Since API 650 limits you to 1/2 thick steel roofs and a maximum height minimum radius you can easily calculate the maximum diameter based on the loading for a self supported cone, dome or umbrella roof. However, if you consider any roof that does not have vertical columns as self supported then you are pretty much unlimited in size since you can build a 3D space frame and cover it with thin steel. If you are not stuck with steel then aluminum clear span roofs have been made up to 450 feet in diameter.
