    • Tank sketch plate replacement - Wednesday, April 20, 2011 - Stephen Crane [977] 0 Stars
If we do a floor repair that includes the replacement of sketches, are we obligated/required to fix all nozzles that are not in code? I have thought that once you breach the corner joint which triggers a hydro, you should satisfy all code requirements. On this particular riveted tank, there are already three floors installed over the last 60 years. No nozzles have been changed, and the original manway rivited pad has been cut through twice.

I would bring the deficiencies to the attention of the owner in writing and let them decide.

Since you are going to have to do a hydro you may as well upgrade the nozzles and manways.

Im not aware of any requirement to make the changes, but it sure would be a good time to do it and it removes a lot of potential risk by getting your weld spacing up to code. With out making the changes, I think API 653 will require things like Mag. Particle testing of the welds that are not up to code and they will show up on reports as not meeting code every time the tank is inspected.
