The shell to bottom weld or corner weld is completed before laying the second course. Keeping the tank round would be really tough.

Welding sequence is always up for debate between tankies...

While I would agree the tub ring should be tacked into place before hanging the second ring .... I usually use the corner weld and bottom plate for a filler for my welders while they are waiting on something else to weld.

I always make sure that at minimum my inside corner weld is completed before starting on the bottom welds. But the outside usually is one of the last things I have them weld.

Heck depending on the number of welders I have I might hang the first two rings before I weld anything. Have my welders weld it out . Then while a couple of them are waiting for the next ring to be hung they weld corner weld then bottom. Just have to make sure they are not under you when you are hanging.

If your welders aint welding you aint makin money.

You want a good debate about welding sequence amongst tankies ...... Then you should ask in what order is the preferred weld sequence for a tank bottom.
