SURFACE TYPE CONTACT INTERNAL FLOATING ROOFS PROBLEMS 1. The honeycomb panels are only about 50mm thick. This means that the liquid level is about 40mm below the top surface. Any residue such as rust from the shell will submerge the IFR a bit more. With a pontoon roof you have at least the pontoon radius travel before the liquid level is getting near the top skin. With a panel type roof you only have 40mm. 2. There are 3 types of contact roofs; (a)Honeycomb panel end parts glued. Honeycomb panels have a layer of sheeting top & bottom with interconnecting extrusions around each panel. These edge strips are glued into place (b)Honeycomb panel end parts welded (c)Very thin sheet metal panels filled with foam (Sandborne, made in Canada) 3. With honeycomb roofs, you never know when vapour has entered the honeycomb, and is therefore explosive when taking the tank out of service. 4. The most serious problem is that the honeycomb panels are so rigid, they de-laminate due to flexing caused by product movement. 5. With glued edge strips the glue breaks down as it is submerged in the product. 6. (c) type panels are filled with urethane foam and are cored through at site when a leg sleeve is required. This is glue sealed. Of course, this does not work and the urethane foam inside the panel soaks up the product. See our website for AIFR www.baillietank.com

It's hard not to look at this ad at least once, then you go to the next page an notice it again. Maybe you will not read the message, but you will be thinking about the brand and we call that brand impressions.
