You are one ahead of me, But you have been doing it a little longer.
Foam log seal have their place, but few tank owners use them in the proper locations, If you have a tank that has few cycles they are great. Also if the shell is coated it should lower the failure, But again, I have never seen one that has not failed.
The shell needs to be prepared by insuring the welds and shell are free of burs. I put one in a ethanol tank where the shell had been coated, I looked out the shell and thought I had found everything. Two years later took the tank out of service and had missed one burr. Had a hissy at the environmental goobers that had insisted on the foam log. Installed a mechanical shoe with wiper and six years later, no issues.
Another thing to take into consideration when it comes to a foam log seal is the disposal of the contaminated material.
