I know FCAW can be used on insert work and corner welds.
And I know there have been floor laps welded with FCAW.
I have seen the first I have not seen the second done succesfuly. To me the process pulls moisture up from the sand cushion causing porosity. The same with using a goat. Works great for corners, but by the time you fix the breakdown welds, fix the porosity, you would have been money ahead using jet.
I could see on a large diameter tank where 40 foot floor plates are being used, a goat could a lot faster. But on small tanks they are just not worth the agrivation
