My opinion,The number of Manways, depending to Purchaser / owner requires, and API to guide for dimension only.
Purchaser will be informing, the size and number of manways, usually issue through the technical specification, or some time the contractor propose, subject to Purchaser approval.
For sample only, on the technical specification Purchaser requirement mentions as follows
~ Tanks over 200 feet in diameter 4-24 inch I.D. spaced 90 degrees apart
~ Tanks 150feet-199 feet in diameter 3-24 inch I.D. spaced 120 degrees apart
~ Tanks 40feet-149 feet in diameter 2-24 inch I.D. spaced 180 degrees apart
~ Tanks 39 feet in diameter and smaller 1-24 inch I.D.
Or an other sample, such as
~ Tank 3-6 m nominal diameter 1-600 mm I.D.
~ Tank 6-12 m nominal diameter 2-600 mm I.D.
~ Tank 12-27 m nominal diameter 1-600 mm I.D. and 1-900 mm I.D.
~ Tank 27-60 m nominal diameter 2-600 mm I.D. and 1-900 mm I.D.
~ Tank 60 m nominal diameter 2-600 mm I.D. and 2-900 mm I.D.
These all not for debate, just only want to say depending to Purchaser requirement.
